Ace Frehley: Behind the Player gives fans a chance to go behind the scenes with one of rock guitar’s most famous players, and the lead guitarist for legendary rock icons KISS. The DVD allows viewers the chance to sit down with Frehley while he discusses his life as a rock guitarist, his beginnings in the rock world, musical influences, groundbreaking work as a founding member of KISS, solo career, gear, thoughts on digital recording, and his gives his take on his long anticipated 2009 solo album Anomaly. With such in depth conversations the DVD provides viewers with an up close and personal look at one of the most recognized names, and faces, in rock history.
Besides showcasing Frehley and his music, Behind the Player also features interviews with some of the leading rock musicians on today’s scene, including John 5, Matt Sorum, and George Lynch. Each of these seasoned rock veterans provide anecdotes and insights discussing the impact that Frehley has had on their careers, and how he’s had a major influence on the majority of aspiring rock guitarists who have come after him.
The DVD also goes beyond the biographical as Frehley lays down two in-depth lessons on how to play his classic tunes; “Cold Gin” and “Shock Me.” These lessons provide viewers an up close and personal experience with Frehley as he demonstrates how to play these songs by breaking them down step by step.
There is another feature where viewers can watch Frehley jam on these tunes with John 5, George Lynch, Matt Sorum, and others, offering the viewer an awesome reference for further study. On top of the step by step breakdown and jams, there’s also an animated tab video feature which shows Frehley playing the tunes as the tablature scrolls by on the screen. This feature will be a welcomed aid to the players learning these riffs, and who prefer to learn with the help of a visual, as well as audio, reference.
